ACTIVITIES IN ARIZONA
Many organizations have projects and activities designed to promote health literacy or to make health information more accessible for patients, family or the public in general. Here are some examples:

Understanding pictures:
A patient interpreted a nighttime pictogram with moon & stars as meaning "if the moon is out" and the patient did not take medications on cloudy nights. We cannot assume that all people understand a picture the same way. Educators need to learn what the pictogram means to the other person and make sure that it is interpreted appropritely. How? Consider a teach back, asking for an explanation or a demonstration on how to take the medication.
